My friend JP, who grew up here in the Cleveland area, flew in one winter and wanted to go shooting. So I called another friend, and we headed down to Ashland Lake Gun Club.
It’s been about 4 years since I took out a rod and did a little casting for about an hour. Most of the Bass as you can see but the Sunfish hit pretty nice.
That’s right. It was me. I’m the guy that bought the Cuttlery Shoppe exclusive and I love it. The G-10 scales provide for great grip wet or dry. The S30V steel blade has handled two years of wear and use and has yet to be sharpened. And lastly the reverse tanto blade provides a great shape for precision work.
We don’t win every match. We don’t always catch the largest fish. Sometimes no matter how much we practice we make a mistake. One day my friend Bill and I took a long drive out to a indoor range that did IDPA practice sessions on Monday and Tuesday nights. During a magazine change Bill didn’t notice his magazine wasn’t fully locked in until it was too late.
In 2010, after watching my neighbor / mentor / great friend / old buddy aka CF get multiple Fish Ohio awards year after year for almost 3 decades he and I headed out with his friend Doug to a public pond.
CF gave me my first spinning rod and reel, he helped me pick out my first compound bow, got me my first Fish Ohio, taught me to tie flies, make my own bow strings, and tried to teach me how to cast a fly rod. Somewhere in all that he snuck in many other life lessons. He passed away in 2016 but I will always remember my first Fish Ohio.
I took a friend who has very little experience with firearms to the range and decided it was time to get over her fear of “big guns.”
Just to be clear, in this photo are a Sig Sauer p229 in .40 S&W and a Smith & Wesson J frame .38 Special. Let’s all take a moment to realize what this 120lb 5’6″ girl was about to take on.
Just one more perspective… On the right is a .40 S&W, in the center is a .38 Special, and on the left is the S&W 500 Magnum cartridge. That particular one was loaded with a 700 grain bullet. That’s right, literally 1/10 of a pound of lead. The .40 S&W is loaded with 165 grain, the .38 Special is loaded with 158 grain. Cor-Bon and S&W got together and created one bad momma.
Several years ago, I helped a friend take his nephew fishing. It was a great afternoon that ended with us removing a fishhook from a duck, and a chicken paprikash dinner. It’s been about 7 years since we took him fishing and every time he is in town I understand he asks to go.
I went to New York with my in-laws in October of 2013. My brother-in-law, father-in-law, and I went on a trout fishing charter, we had a great time and reeled in 6 very nice trout. Of course none of us took pictures. When we got back my father-in-law and I went down to the dock to cast for a bit, he got a hit and reeled this guy in, this little guy is the only fish we caught all week not on charter.
I had the opportunity years ago to get my picture taken with 2 Bengal Tigers. The orage one at a chicken while I was in the cage, it was intimidating but I survived.
